the wickerman ...

Wicker man by alex rigg and trevor leatOur large-scale work has included several International Events making use of Fire. We have built and burned many willow giants in many countries. The figures are based around timber and steel frames and are in excess of seven metres tall.

Each figure takes between four to eight weeks to complete and less than an hour to burn. The fires are designed to last for a controlled period of time dependant upon the requirements of the venue. Fall-out can also be controlled to allow for greater public access.

Our first giant figures were made for the Lisbon Expo in 1998 and were ten metres tall. They were based on figures from traditional European mid-summer celebrations. These figures were generally known as “Gigantones” and provided the focal point for celebration at the summer solstice in many villages throughout Europe.

We have made the giant figure for the Wickerman Music Festival in Galloway since its conception in 2002. The figures are around nine metres tall and are burned on the main evening of the festival.

We are very keen to make more giants so please call us for ideas if you think that you might be interested. We are also keen to make giant figures that of a more permanent nature and are developing designs and ideas towards durable structures.
